What it takes to build an open network
Open parcel locker networks are harder to build than dedicated ones. They have to serve multiple logistics operators and e-commerce platforms simultaneously, route parcels intelligently across locations, integrate new partners fast enough that the network stays useful, and reach commercial viability before patience runs out.
Most attempts stall at one of these challenges. Doing all of them at once — in extreme climate conditions, in a fast-growing market — is a different scale of problem.
The challenge
A new agnostic locker network needed to launch in Saudi Arabia and reach nationwide scale quickly. The market opportunity was real: e-commerce growth, fragmented last-mile, urban density, and clear demand for shared out-of-home infrastructure. But so were the constraints — 50°C+ summer temperatures, vast distances between cities, a fragmented operator landscape, and no existing playbook for parcel locker infrastructure at this scale in the region.
The network had to be open by design. Multiple logistics operators, e-commerce platforms, retailers, and service providers needed to plug in quickly, with predictable economics. And the whole thing had to reach commercial viability within one year — not five.

How we approached it
We combined three capabilities that usually don't sit under one roof: in-house manufacturing, specialized software built for open networks, and operational experience from launching agnostic networks in other countries — where OMNIC co-invested alongside the operators rather than only supplying them.
On the hardware side: climate-adapted lockers engineered for extreme GCC conditions, courier-friendly operational flows, and modular configurations that could scale across diverse locations. On the software side: a platform built specifically for open networks — multi-operator architecture, intelligent network load balancing, automated revenue settlement, and a 24-hour operator integration model. On the operations side: a tested rollout playbook for site acquisition, installation, support, and operator onboarding.
The 24-hour integration model mattered more than any single technical feature. Operators could go live the day after they signed up — meaning network growth wasn't bottlenecked by custom development cycles.

What the first year proved
The network reached 600+ lockers across 40 cities within twelve months — and crossed into commercial viability inside the same year.
An open network only becomes infrastructure when partners can join faster than they can build their own.
The market's largest logistics operators and e-commerce platforms integrated through one shared layer, alongside retailers and service providers. Intelligent load balancing optimized utilization. Customers used the same network to receive, return, and manage parcels regardless of which company sent them. The model proved that an open locker network can be deployed, scaled, and monetized in a fast-growing market — and that experience from previous launches in other countries takes much of the risk out of entering a new one.
